I love Svalbard. The Stockholm is a wonderful little ship. Only 12 passenger places, and when I was on it the captain's personal crusade was going out on a jetski to take more accurate soundings everywhere he could and transmitting them to the Norwegian authorities, who, I was told, discounted his observations because he was a Swede. Much of the place has never been properly surveyed. But he had the most accurate charts around and a small ship and he went everywhere.

It was a great ship for wildlife, because of being so small and unobtrusive.

Is this the first time a major sport organization has taken a stance against countries which routinely violate human rights? I can remember a few people boycotting the Beijing Olympics back in 2008 but that's about it.
