I don't know Mercedes Lackey's work but am prepared to accept that this is a big apology.

Have you ever done a full on critique all in one place?

I did: I wrote an article called "Summa Jacksonica" which appeared in a book titled Tolkien on Film, edited by Janet Brennan Croft, in 2004. But it's not online, as far as I know; and there's a lot about the topic that I only subsequently realized and thus isn't in the article.

Tolkien's books aren't easy to read and wouldn't have worked as movies imo if the goal was to reach a wider audience. I watched the movies, decided to read the books, ended up liking them much better for the most part.
