Also my digital music collection is stuck at July 2017 because I haven't figured out how to sync iTunes with my phone since I bought a new phone then, so although I have bought / been given CDs since then, and even ripped them to the Mac, I haven't been able to transfer them to the device on which I actually listen to music.

So I'm actually listening to everything on Spotify or Bandcamp.

Just bought a new Tragically Hip album, Saskadelphia. (Yes, new stuff that was recorded before Gord Downie died.) There's a couple of others I'm expecting, finances permitting...

This week definitely for DVD/BluRay -- I rarely go more than a couple of days without watching one.
Physical CDs, depends exactly what is meant. I do occasionally stick on an actual physical CD, but I *buy* a lot more physical CDs -- which I then rip to FLAC and listen to through the laptop. Most recent time actually listening to a physical CD playing directly was probably about a month ago, while the most recent time purchasing a physical CD and ripping it was last week.
(I also still semi-regularly listen to vinyl, and also have a few audio BluRays which came with box sets, which I'll treat as CDs for the purposes of your question).

This week in both cases, but only because of the kids - it's school holidays here, so they were allowed to watch Frozen II after dinner/before bed, and they've discovered our cupboard full of CDs and randomly pick some to play from time to time.

Also should note that we don't subscribe to any video or music streaming services here, which is possibly a bit unusual these days ...

We're top end hi fi freaks so still listen to a lot of CDs (not to mention 12" vinyl albums) via a physical music system with high quality sound reproduction.

I haven't touch my DVDs in ages, but one of my SO's still uses hers somewhat regularly and I sometimes watch with her. CDs not since pre-pandemic and even then I would not listen to them, but I would still buy them somewhat regularly, particularly from live local shows, and immediately rip them when getting home.

Sold all my CDs a very long time ago. Just realized while doing some sorting this summer that I still had a few DVDs. I need to sell these too. Don't even know if the Parisian store that will take anything will accept them ;)

I think there is little to lose and potentially much to gain from assuming that there is always something that can be explained in comments.

I like CDs - and actual game discs for games. I prefer physical books & own so many books - plus have several physical magazine subscriptions. I even like to buy the 'dead tree' version of web-comics like 'Narbonic' & 'Girl Genius' & others when they get published.

I work at a library and we still buy dvds & cds. Problem is, the universe has decided these are dead medias and it is getting harder and harder to find the cases we put them in. So when we do find some in stock, we try to buy as many as possible. Technically, I think they count as 'zombie media', like magazines, where people still use them, but not enough to keep them alive.

I personally bought new CDs in the last few months, one of which I listened to while ripping it.

The household has bought new DVD-type media in the same time period, which were all ripped to the household media server. I'm not sure if anyone watched it directly off the optical drive at any point.

In the case of DVD/Blu-rays, I've skipped through some in the last month to see if they're OK, having just bought them. As with books, it's usually a while before they get the attention they deserve...

Bah! Realized I hit the wrong button and changed my vote before I hit 'post comment'.

I've never learned to use Spotify or any other streaming service. I have physical CDs, which I loaded to my laptop, and I also buy/save iTunes in my laptop. Then I burn my own CDs to mix and match artists, and have longer playing time. My car radio antenna is broken, so I lose radio five miles from town (I live 12 miles out). I like music when I drive, so the CDs get used twice a week, when I go to town.

I've also never learned to use TV streaming services. (I strongly suspect it would be cost-prohibitive and/or subject to unacceptable lagging/buffering due to my crappy internet service.) But, each new TV season, there are fewer new shows that I'm interested in sitting down to watch. When I flip through the schedule and conclude "there's nothing to watch", I put in a DVD of one of my old faves.

I live alone with no kids, which I suspect skews my listening / watching habits quite a bit.

I've ripped CDs within the last few months (and still have a few stacked up to do), but I haven't listened to music directly off of one in quite a while.

I recently decommissioned my original Blu-ray player (a PS3) to free up the HDMI port for my PS5 (which can also play them), but it's been a couple of years since I watched a movie off a disc...and that was during what was supposed to be[1] a movie watching party in my apartment building's theater room, which had a BD player but no streaming box at the time.

[1] Due to a lack of attendance it became a Me Party.

We kept a Netflix DVD plan for a long time, even when it was taking me months to finally watch the DVDs they would send. We finally cancelled that plan earlier this year, and only kept one of their cheapest streaming plans.

We still have a collection of our own DVDs, but if we ever watch any of them again, it will likely be a rare event.

I've ripped all my old CDs to MP3 files, and only buy digital music now (except when I can't find a digital version). MP3s are much more convenient. Now that I'm thinking about it, popping a CD into a player and playing all the songs on it in order might make me feel nostalgic. But most of the CD players in the house don't even work anymore. Only keep them because the radios they are attached to do still work.

What about books? Magazines? Game cartridges/discs? Art supplies? Sheet music?

I just bought an actual physical book (every time I do this I wonder if it will be the last time ever) and I’m wondering about whether it’s sensible to ‘scan’ (actually photograph) and OCR the entire thing.

I watched job training videos that were burned onto DVD's. I had to buy a USB DVD player 😅 but now that I have one, I'm planning to check out some CD's from the library and rip them for music!

My car is still CD based so that's the primary reason I still use CDs.
DVD's I've watched when visiting a friend that has a big DVD collection... "Date Night" thus before the Pandemic. I don't even have a TV (and my computer hasn't had a CD/DVD drive for a year, so if I want to watch something on disc, I need to plug in my external burner)

EDIT: But I did find a bunch of discs I have yet to rip last I cleaned my room, which is pretty cool/nice.

I ticked "this week" for DVD but that's because I live with someone with a massive DVD/Blurry collection fetish and he puts stuff on to watch

I haven't, myself, put a DVD into a player to watch something for a very long time. I have listened to CDs since we moved house because we have an old CD player in the kitchen and while I've got a bluetooth adapter just hitting play is easier, and I also wanted to check a recording that isn't on Spotify but is on CD

I read paper magazines and comics every day when eating breakfast, partially because reading on the phone is such a pain when ads jump the screen around, partially because Private Eye and 2000AD have good subscription setups and are best read physically

I buy physical books all the time. Most of them are niche academic texts not available digitally. Internet access is both restricted and unreliable. And anyway, I like owning things and being sure that they're there if I want to read or watch or listen to them again.

Only listened to a physical CD as I had burnt on CD the soundtrack for Battlestar Galactica and wanted to listen to that in the car and the phone and the car stereo didn't want to play together. So it's been a diet of Bear McCreary's science-fiction soundtrack for a bit. At home .. I can't remember when I last listened to a CD or watched a DVD. Years.

I'm another one who is still ripping CDs and listening to them on MP3, so "listened to CD" is only indirectly for a number of years now.

Until relatively recently (probably early this year) I was still watching my Teaching Company courses on physical DVDs (and I have a pile backed up yet to watch). But I finally gave in and started watching them via my Roku, which is slightly easier than using the DVDs.
