Are such small refrigerators still typical in Britain? My aunt's in Germany was that size, but that was 30 and more years ago. I'd have to make a lot of changes to my food and shopping habits to get by with such a small one, and I'm only one person, not a whole family.

It is very Gideon-sized though! Has it got a child-proof latch?

OMG. I took a look at the fridge at that link and thought it doesn't look all that much like yours.

Then later while washing a few dishes, it hit me that I have seen that black refrigerator before! I even have photos of it!

What you posted a pic of is a typical small dorm fridge (very, very common in my college town for obvious reasons). His looks a mite bigger (wider mostly, though maybe a bit taller as well; see: "baby is shorter than the fridge"). The size and shape of his is fascinating and something I've never seen before.

Yes, yes, I know. A dorm or motel-sized fridge. And Andrew's looks different.

But Andrew posted a link to one of the exact same color and model (albeit sold under a different brand name) as the one I dealt with in that motel. It is a big coincidence, I say! ::grin::

Also, the one at the link he posted *also* has a big mayo jar in it! :p
Although both his mayo and the mayo in the fridge ad photo look like a normal American large-size mayo jar to me.

Just saw your edit and my, that's an even bigger mayo jar. Missed seeing it on my first pass, I guess because it wasn't on the door. Maybe I need to start shopping wherever they sell them that big (though come to think of it Walmart has a jar that dwarfs both of those. I'd forgotten about it until now).

Oh, I hadn't visited the link. You're right, that is the same one in your motel room, not the same one Andrew has. Hmmmm.

I wonder if they still sell ones in the same style as yours? I could think of uses for that shape and size (dorm fridges otoh, suck - they're too small to be useful and run too warm to trust your food and drinks to stay cold). I don't see your style in the US, not for sale, not in people's homes, nor anyplace I've worked, not even restaurants.

Assuming you have at least or around 730 sf (which I don't assume) the kitchen must be small/tight as that's about what I have (maybe under 700 sf) and as you may know if you've seen under lock, the kitchen cubby/wall cut-out that holds the fridge can not only accommodate a full-size fridge but a rather tall and wide one, if it's pre-measured correctly before putting it in. (My taller fridges weren't always and/or never worked right anyhow.)

The addition sounds like a good idea. Get the biggest fridge in there you can, it's worth it. On the daily for five+ years now I've been losing my mind trying to play Tetras with all the stuff in my fridge and I'm just one person who lives and eats alone, who likes to stay stocked up.

I had a tiny fixed kitchen table in an apartment once, like a decade ago. Hated it. But it's your house, right, so at least it is possible to move it.

Your son is an enterprising individual and I expect to hear (later) that he finds out things we never knew we needed to know.

I'm always surprised by the camper-sized fridges in the UK. How do you buy frozen pizza for later? ;)

Well, when you get there, I beg you not to get a side-by-side fridge & freezer - the worst of both worlds. However, a stand-alone upright freezer is fantastic.

BTW - how did Gideon actually pull the door open? There's a reasonable amount of suction to overcome.

Speaking of fridges, is that an ice maker above the refrigeration compartment? In the US our ice makers are usually in the freezer and that space holds another shelf or two.

Cute baby, btw! Though I can't stop ogling the mayo - that jar is just huge.

Ah, so that's the entire appliance! I thought perhaps the top (commonly the freezer compartment in the US, though sometimes we also stick that on the bottom under the fridge) was cut off/out of view.
