Maybe if he only does catering, like, for Christmas and the Fourth of July. Maybe.
A neighborhood grocery/sandwich shop could reasonably pull in $35k in a good week or two.

Also kinda amusing that he's a high school principal, but the fact he also coaches wrestling is more important. Americans and sports.

I actually suspect it’s laundering Chinese gambling money (the shares transfer to the gambler, the casino buys them back. Something like that.)

You probably have followed the story yourself. Apparently, Hometown International is actually valued at close to $2 billion.
And it got now marked as to indicate that something is fishy. :)

The NYT did write another extensive article about Hometown Deli in New Jersey. The tl;dr summary is that while it's certainly fishy. It's kind of standard Wall Street fishy for a company that's listed on the third-tier over-the-counter segment of that particular stock exchange. That's at least my impression.
