The Alba Party's attitude to aspects of gender and sexuality is a really interesting case study into planned vs emergent strategy.

But however it is arising it's putting me right off.

Yeah, I expected the transphobia, I was most unpleasantly surprised by the branding of LGBT campaigners as pedophiles trying to lower the age of consent to 10. I shouldn't have been because folks who campaigned against section 28 have been saying it's all homophobia rebranded all along, but still, to witness people actually thinking that's true was something else.

Well, the Alba Party is clearly discovering its niche. And that niche appears to be tragic and frustrating, if depressingly predictable. Since there's a Scottish Parliament election just around the corner, I'm assuming Salmond's people have recruited pretty much whoever they can to fill their ranks, and that a good number of them are now being completely insufferable in public as a consequence of being really eager but also really inexperienced?

I mean, I've got a distinct impression it's one of these parties again, so it'd be par for the course.

Aye, it's a surprisingly regressive approach.

And unlikely to be popular.

It's a curious tactic.
