If the developing world is not vaccinated for a few years will their be restrictions inside the UK? Or just restrictions coming and going internationally? Or to and from developing nations?

I can see the average European and USian punter being very unbothered if Africa and Latin America struggle on with COVID-19 so long as they can go to the pub and the beach.

The national museum in Tirana has a clothing display that illustrates recent Albanian history.

The shirt and jacket of a teenage girl shot while crossing the border.

The torn and patched pants of a political prisoner. The thread used to fix the tears and attach the patches was the hair of the prisoner's mother.

The language chart is interesting, but it has one flaw for my purposes: it requires a pretty hefty sample of the written language to determine whether a given letter-form is absent. When I was converting library card catalogs to computer form, which is when I needed to know my way around the European languages to tag the records properly, I often had no more than the title and publication info of the book on the card to go on.

If the salient difference between Czech and Slovak is that Slovak has an umlaut-a and Czech doesn't - really? that is a distinction I never noticed - it wasn't the most helpful. The single most helpful thing was that Czech has the circle-over-the-u and Slovak doesn't. But it doesn't occur often in Czech, so it might not be on a given card. But I did find that Czech and Slovak had quite different patterns of how they used the same diacritics, and I learned to tell the difference from that. But the contents of that detail I no longer remember.

"I wish I'd had a teacher this awesome"

I don't think I do. The idea of an adult making you keep secrets from other adults because he's The Teacher and has some power and influence over you is just a big nope for me. And I don't know what every kid thought of all the yelling and people throwing things at each other to make their point. As an introvert, quiet kid, I guess I would have felt really uncomfortable in these situations. Maybe even scared. Besides, school for some kids is a very safe space, sometimes the only one, because the rules don't change unexpectedly and they know what to expect when they follow or don't follow them. There's reassurance and structure in routine. I get what this teacher was trying to do. I'm not sure this worked for every kid. I'm sure it worked great for some.
