It just suddenly occurred to me to wonder, can a president pardon his vice president, resign, be appointed vice president, repeat? I THINK that my memory from West Wing is that a replacement VP needs to be approved by some sort of vote of congress. And obviously it's only a good move for them if they trust each other enough.
