I'd have given a lot for puberty blockers but no chance back then.
This meant that I ended up having to go through puberty twice in four years!

While the second journey was far preferable, can you imagine?

You certainly can't expect Westen countries to follow anything heathen countries in Eastern Asia might do now, can we? After all, if we just keep doing what we're doing either eventually everybody will have had COVID-19 and either died or lived and then that will be that! Perfect! Dontchaknow! After all, everybody in the West knows masks don't work -- thank you, CDC and New York Times -- and thermometers are worthless -- thanks to Western science. And we, in Western countries, just can't abide anything that ain't perfect.

Having been in SE Asia from the end of January through early March, I am still bitter how blindingly stupid Western countries (except for New Zealand and Australia) have handled it. Flying into Minneapolis from Tokyo on March 6th was like moving from a modern country to the third world we so much looked down on.

It also helps to have good health and access to good healthcare, a healthy bank account, a decent job, somewhere agreeable to live, a positive view of the future, and a reasonable degree of personal independence while also fitting more or less comfortably into your particular socio-cultural milieu, and a reasonable expectation that all the previous will continue....

to some extent with money you can buy the rest; I didn't like my socio-cultural milieu, so I found a better one. But I did it on the back of my parents' money and class/race privilege, which was sufficient to buy me the education I needed to get the job I have, which pays enough that I can live where I want to with people agreeable to me.
