Date: 2020-11-07 07:09 pm (UTC)Yes, I know what it means, but "beat" is not a term much used by itself in the US for such violence (and "smack" even less so; I think we usually say "hit" or "spank"); so since we usually say "beat" to mean win at a game, I'm whimsically imagining a law ordering parents not to do that ...
