About the BBC Situation?

Mr. Davie was under specific orders to mess up the rules of conduct at the BBC, I suspect. I think I know who gave those instructions: Dominic Cummings. Unless there are other suspects of like mind?

(As I support the CBC here in Canada, I have a natural inclination to support the Beeb as well as the Ceeb. Public broadcasters in general, really.)

Ok, interesting, I would have thought people who especially wanted red poppies might have wanted white poppies least of all. Now I wonder, what about purple poppies? Rainbow poppies?

Very depressed the BBC is messing with this.

I like to think you're very happy to be with Jane, rather than off the market.

They are still very cramped vessels to be aboard, aren't they?

1. Proxy wars actually sound like a relatively good idea if the alternative is the first group of chimps and the fourth group of chimps fighting each other directly with nuclear bombs.

2. A captured WW2 German U-boat has been on display at a museum in Chicago since soon after the war. I've been in it.

3. Exactly equivalent feelings to yours: Happy to be with my B. Happy to be "off the market." (Never liked being on it.) And also devoutly glad that I disappeared long before any of this social-media dating stuff was invented. And even more glad that I never had to deal with social media as a child or teenager.

4. A civilised country. Will wonders never cease?

6. Red poppies mean this, white poppies mean that. I hope this symbolism doesn't get too complicated. In California our state flower is a common-growing bright orange poppy. What would that mean on a lapel?

"4. A civilised country. Will wonders never cease?"

It's not so much about being civilized, but about New Zealand switching to MMP 25 or so years ago. The most likely outcome of any election is a coalition. So even if a party does get an outright majority, it's still best to make an arrangement with a third party so as to keep them happy for the next election, when you might really need them.

"Unconditional job guarantee to be trialled in Austria, in world first"

The USSR had one. Article 40 of the constitution:

"Citizens of the USSR have the right to work (that is, to guaranteed employment and pay in accordance with the quantity and quality of their work, and not below the state-established minimum), including the right to choose their trade or profession, type of job and work in accordance with their inclinations, abilities, training and education, with due account of the needs of society."

Those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it and all that.

Saturated Fats - not the CHEESE!

"....the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-up Study found a consistently lower risk of coronary heart disease when total saturated fat was replaced by polyunsaturated fat, monounsaturated fat, or whole grain carbohydrates, whereas replacing SFAs with refined carbohydrate was not associated with a lower risk."

And then, oh sob, :
"Saturated fat is found in:

butter, ghee, suet, lard, coconut oil and palm oil
cakes
biscuits
fatty cuts of meat
sausages
bacon
cured meats like salami, chorizo and pancetta
cheese
pastries, such as pies, quiches, sausage rolls and croissants
cream, crème fraîche and sour cream
ice cream
coconut milk and coconut cream
milkshakes
chocolate and chocolate spreads"

*sigh*

As my dear grandma used to say, "A little bit of what you fancy does you good." At my age, the emphasis is slightly more on the 'little bit' than it used to be, that's all.

I'd make biscuits and pie dough with lard if I could get it ready processed, because they are The Best. I'm not going to render it down myself, though.
