Somehow, being a straight, Quaker trans woman marrying into a Scots Presbyterian family doesn't have the same ring about it! :o)

1. Now there's interesting ideas for viewing down the road. Especially for calming nerves, I suppose.

4. Because, of course the software isn't going to be ready in time. I've worked (briefly) in QA testing work, so this is all too real to me.

5. Good. Especially where renewables are concerned. This is the kind of thing that's keeping me saner than I might otherwise be.

8. I needed this. Long personal story, not entirely mine to tell. For the near to medium-term future.

The dementia post is extremely useful. Not personally, yet, thank goodness, but I have friends dealing with elderly and confused parents. Thanks for the link!

Agreed--when my Gran finally went into a home, Mum made me go visit ASAP, but not for the reason I suspected. Gran so happily told me it was great to see me, and cousin Paul had been in the previous week, sat up on the bed kicking his feet against it.

Cousin Paul is 10 years older than me and big enough to break that bed--it was my nephew Jack. Mum wanted me to visit so that when Gran said "oh, it was nice to see Matthew", Mum didn't get upset because she'd got me mixed up again, it could be referring to my visit.

It's never nice to see them fade at the end, but keeping them happy is the most important thing, actually upsetting them is just weird

As someone who's had a parent with dementia, I understand the temptation. It's easy to think "they'd want me to correct them if they make a mistake", because that would have been true before. But it's just emotional hysteresis, that you shouldn't listen to.
