"How big an effect do parents have on their children's educational achievement?"

I can't even begin to understand how some people could think it didn't have any significant effect. Any teacher could tell you that it has a *major* impact. Let's not even talk about neuroscientists have to say about early stimulation.

Plane Loading

The fastest I ever saw a plane loaded was in South Korea. We had assgiend seats and were loaded in groups like normal. But *everyone* did as I do, moved speedily, decisively and - DID NOT BLOCK THE AISLE!! I get what I am keeping with me sorted in the boarding queue, chuck it on the seat as I get to the row, put my bigger bag in the overhead locker in one move - WHILE LEAVING ROOM FOR PEOPLE TO GET PAST. Which (barring really huge peole) is actually totally possible - you just have to think, and to want to, and consider how we ALL get on fastest. Cos we don't leave til we are all on, right?

In other public transport, "ditherers" drive me mad. Just get on as fast as possible, take either a pre-decided and spotted seat or the first available seat. Again, make room / stay out of the way as much as you can. Move as fast as YOU can (this obviously varies) but DO NOT STOP MOVING!! I dunno why but a lot of people can't manage that. I guess they are not congentially and professionally obsessed with optimisation!

Plane boarding

I thought all planes just boarded their Economy passengers by row number from the back (and the First/Business/relevant privileged class boarded at will, from a separate door). Certainly the main Asian and Middle-eastern airlines do. I haven't flown a European airline in several years, but I vaguely remember Air France doing the same.

Most current American airlines do *not* do so, far as I can tell: they board in groups, but the logic of the grouping is, often, rather mysterious...
