The City Deal doesn't seem to have any additional money for railways.

That's a bummer. The South Edinburgh railway line would have been a nice thing to get from that!

Yes, it would.

I think most of the funding for railways is allocated through the transport funding settlements and is done pretty far ahead but for things like stations there seems to be a requirement for co-funding. I was specifically looking out for some funding to secure stations at East Linton and Reston on the communter part of the East Coast Mainline.

I love the line about Hynes "acknowledging" that if they open stations at East Linton and Reston they will need to provide services to and from these stations. As if he might be surprised by the novel concept that you would only build a railway station if you intended for trains to stop there.

We can admire them from the motorway.

I found unitofcaring's explanation of this difference really helpful. In fact, I find *many* of unitofcaring's posts really helpful.

Although I'm very cautious, because many people would disagree and I don't want to put words in their mouths.

For comparison, I think there *are* things where I confuse "this is true" and "I believe this" and "maybe it would be good if we believe this", mostly ethical principles, like "allowing people to choose for themselves is a good thing".

Regarding phoning about someone who's died, this bit is so true:
If you have a number of these phonecalls to make, my advice is that it's very useful to have someone who cares about you and who didn't know the person at all (ie is not bereaved etc themselves) who you can phone in between each one to tell you you're doing a good job

When my mother died years ago, I had to go through her address book and phone her friends. That was the hardest thing I've ever done, by quite some distance.

Not surprised about the bra-thing - but you try to get away without one in a professional setting. Noooope.
