J. Edgar Hoover's ghost is smiling about this particular act against human rights and whatnot, I'm sure. A waste of time, energy, money, peace of mind and public goodwill was committed in going after that gentleman.

The FBI/BIE article was disturbing. So I looked up more info. The GuerillaMainframe group which Balogun is a leader of, is involved in several positive activities, but also has a few disturbing things listed on their website (though it is not well written, so it's hard to understand what is meant):

"We support the abolishment of the U.S. Constitution as a political right" [what does that even mean?]
(it seems to contradict another part of their site which says: "Guerrilla Mainframe is a supporter of our US Constitution and it's 2nd Amendment 'Right to bear arms'")

"We demand the redistribution of land, power, and resources be returned to exploited people around the world."

"We believe in Revolution, by this meaning the Total overthrow of the Capitalist System by direct struggle conflict. Ex. Every aspect of struggle is a useful part of our cause. We agree with protest as a means to enlighten the masses, however balance must play a significant role for unification of the mind, body, and spirit." [ what does this even mean?]

Based on that, I can understand why the FBI would take an interest in the group. So while I still think it was wrong for the FBI to arrest and hold Balogun with no good reason, it's not as totally out of the blue as it seemed from the Guardian article.
