That Saudi Solar PV plan is huge.

About twice the total installed capacity on the UK grid including interconnectors and storage and about much solar PV as was installed in the world between 2012 and 2016.

Yeah, it's got world-changing potential. And would definitely be a driver for either long-distance power lines, or some other method of using up a lot of excess power!

It's almost "brave" for Sir Humphry levels of brave.

I genuinely wonder if there is enough solar PV factory capacity to service that build and all the other stuff that wants to be built.

Maybe Saudi are getting into the PV production game too.

Making themselves a global centre of research, development, production, and deployment of solar power would be a good investment in the future.

It would sit well with their natural resources and what I think their aspirations for the future are.

And it should be reasonably easy to do if you're prepared to throw enough money at it and are any way building loads of solar PV in your country.

Yeah, Saudi are perfectly placed to do this, and it should be a massive gain for the rest of the world too, if they can pull it off. Good luck to them!
