Date: 2018-03-24 06:35 am (UTC)As it happened, he wasn't the most enthusiastic of workers, which probably explains why his family was happy enough to send him to the other side of the world. Now I can't imagine anything really bad happening in the marriage, (he was a nice enough guy, plus abuse requires a certain amount of effort, after all), but the wife's enthusiasm for him dimmed and the marriage ended in divorce, though not before their children were near enough to grown up, if I remember correctly.
If she happened to have stayed in Greece, I guess she would've had a wider pool of suitors to choose from. (She went back to Greece in her forties or so and was surprised at how the traditions had broken down, and the partying the young men and women were now engaged in.)
