I wonder why house prices are moving more in Ballgreen and Saughton than they are in Murrayfield?

Murrayfield is posher than Ballgreen but I'm wondering that is translating in to a big difference in house price movement.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I use partial disc encryption (in my case, say, an encrypted directory in /home/[user]/, that's indistinguishable from free space, isn't it? So how would they even do this? Try to ban encryption applications?

You're right, and yes, the only way to do it is to ban encryption apps. Which basically means banning the internet. The levels of draconianness needed to prevent encrypted conversations are at North Korea levels.

I suspect the difference between "I wouldn't want to live there" and "That's now an option" is more than "That's a nice place to live" and "That's a slightly nicer place to live".

Murrayfield already got lots of buses, and was somewhere people wanted to live. Whereas Saughton was somewhere people were actively avoiding, so if it's now entered the list of places in Edinburgh that people consider living it's going to leap up a fair bit.

That's a good point. If the reason house prices are low is that the area is not brilliant *and* the public transport links are very poor then fixing one is going to have to a big effect compared to somewhere the public transport links were already pretty good.

Does Saughton become a target for gentrification now?

I think that anywhere which becomes affordable and not completely toxic to middle-class people moving in will get gentrified.
