I got annoyed with the preachy tone of that drinking article. Yes, people drink to dull the awfulness of life. Stopping drinking might open your eyes to some of that awfulness, but it doesn't help you stop the awfulness, which is largely out of any one individual's control, from happening.

I'm not going to tell a person to stop treating the symptoms when the cause is untreatable; if your escape is drink, or for that matter scifi, or gaming, or whatever, I'm not going to judge. Well, not as much as the author of that article anyway.

Female oppression leads women to drink, that is why you see all the drunk Muslim women out in the world... oh wait, you don't.

A lot of it sounded like West Coast problems to me because some of the things that she was complaining about are not possible in other places. For example, a lot of states have blue laws that do not allow for the sale of alcohol in the grocery store.

Also, it seems like she never distanced herself from the friends who considered her a good-times party-gal or told them that she had stopped drinking.
