I still refuse to believe that there's more than one heron on the Water of Leith, and that it's not been the same one I've seen all this century.

The statement "The basis of morality is the recognition that the world matters to each person, but matters differently." from the article you linked is more a description of amorality than of morality. With so many viewpoints, there would be many takes on what matters and no universal agreement.

Morality is an artifice built on rules of conduct. As a species, we are very fond of rules. The rules we have developed and by which we live very often go against our very nature. Thus there are rule breakers, amoral behaviour and lots of places to hide in which to break the rules. Thus, there is no morality, there is only the tyranny of the influential.

Twitter's making the same mistakes (and with much larger stakes) than Linden Lab did under Mark Kingdon. Both companies were being driven by their boards to "get Facebook level growth," and making product changes that alienate current users to try and pull away Facebook users by making things "more facebook-y."

Fortunately Kingdon left before he drove away all of SL's user base, and Linden Lab has a going concern in SL. Hopefully Twitter's management will learn the same lesson.
