Catching up. Re the Coalition blocking article, it's bollocks, whoever their "sources" are, and I have my suspicions, they don't even know basic party rules. This time it would probably be a cliff-hanger vote – particularly with it needing two-thirds support.

It's 2/3rds of Parliamentarians, if they say no it's 2/3s of Exec, after that's it's a majority vote at conference, that's the whole point of having the expense of a conference.

The rest of it's dubious at best, but if the MPs wanted to do it in sufficient numbers they don't even need a conference (although they'd likely call one, good for morale).

Parliamentarians voted in favour, but not by a big enough majority, it went to Federal Exec and Ros Scott forced Clegg to concede a special conference was necessary.

When the article said "about 50 of 1500" voted no, there were no media present, it was more like 20, I was at the back of the room, wasn't a counting steward but was stewarding.

There are many reasons Ros is the best President the party ever had, forcing the special conference and making sure the entire party owned the coalition as we'd definitely agreed to it was one of them. That she couldn't stand working with Clegg and didn't go for a second term is fairly obvious.

It's been changed then, had missed that, so the new rules are that there will be a conference.

Party constitution is fairly clear elsewhere in defining a conference, that's a meeting to which all members are entitled to attend and all duly elected/appointed voting reps get to vote on any substantive motions—I'm not one this year, forgot to make sure I got in as one at the last AGM.
