Because the idea that we should only do things that we are passionate about ignores the reality of our lives, and the fact that sometimes there are things that just need to be done, and sometimes there are things that require effort before you can get passionate about them.

Don't spend your life waiting for the passion to arrive.

M'mother has started saying "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing badly" which is SO MUCH at odds with the unhelpful values I've internalised that it does actually help.

Passion is good, but overrated. Who -really- gets passionate about cleaning? Or darning socks? Doing laundry? ... Yet it all still needs to be done.
