Foy was making an observation that examination of girls could under current UK law be considered child abuse. Weasel words.

Date: 2012-07-25 05:10 pm (UTC)I heard a radio four interview the this week on the subject. Blaming the CPS for being too liberal is missing the point. The CPS can only pursue prosecutions it is asked to by the police. So when the article says "the CPS has not instigated one prosecution, let alone secured a conviction" this should be viewed in the context of the CPS instigating prosecutions in 100% of the cases where it could -- it has never had a case bought to it.
Also I don't think there is any significant number of people who are "liberal" who think FGM should not be stopped. Indeed there's widespread agreement that it must be stopped. The question is how to do it. The suggestions made in this article on how to do it seem extremely problematic to say the least.
