Thanks for the cite re salad dressings. I've long held that the major reason for the existence of salads is to support tasty dressings, and (in general) I don't find the low-fat ones sufficiently tasty. Especially because I seem to be limiting my salad base to the things I grow in a Community Gardens [that's American for "Allotment"] plot -- currently, lettuces, scallions, beet greens, green beans, pak chois, radishes, cucumbers, carrots, summer squashes [a plethora, right now], and tomatoes [just starting to ripen properly]. They're all delicious, actually, but... errr.... ummm.... two or three times per day, every goddamn day, quickly becomes A Bit Much, and the help given by many rich & flavourful dressings is greatly appreciated. And yes, I really like this modern approach of using salad dressings as a marinade/basting-sauce for chicken.

I agree - although I do like some vegetables alone, things like lettuce are pretty damn dull without some kind of dressing on them!
