It feels somewhat weird to actually now be paying off noticeable (if still fairly small) amounts of my student loan, now at the age of 29, when previously I'd paid about £10-20 total.

Admittedly, mine's pre-top up fees, but I did two BA degrees, one right after the other, so there's a fair amount to it. At some point it zeros, don't know when.

I am glad I didn't have loans at all. (they'd only just come in when I was at uni). I was (and am still) very anti-loan so I suspect that in necessity I'd have got a part-time job [as it was, summer jobs and a wee bit of rent money from my folks sorted me out]

I can't recall if there is even an option to pay it all off early?

They changed the terms and conditions after the first few years - I took mine out the first 2 years they were available and the interest was always low and you could pay them off whenever. Later on they became more like commercial loans.

I seem to recall that one villain on the Darkwing Duck cartoon series was driven to a life of crime by her attempt to pay off her student loans...

-- Steve remembers being quite surprised at that level of social commentary in a Disney kids' show.

sounds horrible. All loans should have a "pay off early" option

$70,000. I have an AS and a BA. It's down to $30,000.

And, no matter what the politicians say, I worked a full time job and had roommates the whole time.

Mine started in the six figures, and 10 years after graduation, it remains in the six figures. Without a significant increase in salary -- alas, I didn't win the Mega Millions -- I honestly wonder if I'll ever be able to pay it off.

My favourite bit about US student loans is how they're (the only debt that is?) impossible to be discharged through bankruptcy. YAY FISCAL SUSTAINABILITY

In the UK you can't discharge student loans through bankruptcy, either.

The video got it wrong about marriage - you no longer become responsible for your spouse's loans.

Which, given the comparison between my loans and C's, is a relief. :)
