I tried logging out of google so it wasn't doing the personalised search thing, and the results were the same!

me too.
i have search history turned off, am not currently logged into google, and block their ads and analytics, so perhaps this is their "we don't know anything about you" response?

The only way to delete a Facebook account is to email them! All user accessible options only suspend it.

AIUI you can mark it for deletion which suspends it - if you don't log back in for two weeks the account is deleted, as below:

"We have received a request to permanently delete your account. Your account has been deactivated from the site and will be permanently deleted within 14 days.

If you did not request to permanently delete your account, please login to Facebook to cancel this request"

I only suspends now - to get deleted including all data you have to email. I suspended mine and it was there when I went back earlier this month.
