Date: 2003-05-16 01:34 am (UTC)If you have been round someone's house a lot (10-20 times?) and they are a friend, then you may offer to make tea for both (all) of you if you find yourself gagging for one.
If you are staying overnight then you get to make your own tea when you like, but you still have to offer to anybody else that's about.
You don't always need to offer to make tea for people you actually live with (I'm aware that folks, particularly my mum, may find that one contentious).
At work, it's like rounds in the pub. If you participate in rounds you should make tea no less often than anybody else. You may opt out and always make your own. If so, then never confuse the issue by accepting tea or makign anybody else any.
Just my own opinions on what the rules should be/are.

Date: 2003-05-16 01:49 am (UTC)Actually, after people have been round a few times I assume they know where the tea is. I don't think I'd ever be offended if someone said "Any chance of a cup of tea?"
but other than that I think you're completely correct.

Date: 2003-05-16 06:53 am (UTC)I kinda operate on the principal that if I have people round, I do the host bit and make sure they're OK for drinks and food.
Then, if I'm round at theirs, I expect them to do the same.
I agree that actually staying over means that you should help yourself though. Bit ridiculous to have a bed, and worry about making a cup of tea!

Date: 2003-05-16 02:21 am (UTC)Personally I'm more unhappy to ask someone else to make me tea than to make a cup of tea myself.
If I know the person reasonably well I'm happy to ask them if I can make me (and anyone else in the room) tea the first time I visit. Yes, I have actually done it.

coffee, tea, or overwhelm you with generosity?
Date: 2003-05-16 06:15 am (UTC)Sometimes, I don't think we really speak the same language. Or maybe it's like a Mexican talking to a Spaniard.
The food was yummy.
Also, I like really strong assam. With milk.
That is, if you were offering.
Luv,
A.
