I thought that was partly the point of Indiana Jones, that it was meant to be an old matinee serial. I had assumed from the preview picture of the youtube clip that it was going be some kind of home-baked Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid mashup thing...

Quite a lot of shots in Leone's westerns are taken from older western films, as I recall.

Indy IV was painfully, painfully bad. It started off fine - I liked the opening with the warehouse and the nuclear test. I mean, this is Indiana Jones who found the lost ark and holy grail... but then it just becomes so insufferably shite, even with Cate Blanchett and a DUKW chase.

Luckily Raiders and Last Crusade are better than most other things so I can just pretend Temple of Doom (after the Shanghai sequence) and Crystal Noggin don't exist.

Temple of Doom may not have been on par with the other two, but I still enjoyed it, and would absolutely watch it again.

I kinda knew that the makers of Indiana Jones had been inspired by old movies, I just didn't realise how much.

Wow, what a geeky labour of love that side-by-side comparison is!

And finally, the thing I could not get out of my head while watching this... Han shot first! :-D
