This is from Entroducing:

an album produced almost entirely from samples. It's a beautiful work of genius.

This is a cover of the same song, performed on the Eigenharp. Taking samples of music and reproducing them on an instrument that only became possible very recently.

That was very impressive.

Would love to play around with one of these instruments

Curiouser and curiouser... LJ has been showing me videos out of sync for months now (as in, the videos in my flist don't line up with the holes).

But now the top one in my feed page is showing me 'Hate emails with Richard Dawkins', which NOBODY on my friends list has posted! How on earth did it get there??

OMG I missed TWO POSTS ON MY FLIST and the world didn't cave in. (That and the Doctor Who.)

I think in the initial frozen thumbnail he looks like a younger Father Jack would...

I think there's no "almost" for Endtroducing -- it's entirely samples.

And, worse yet, you've posted too many interesting videos today!

Well, that's not really a complaint.

As soon as I hit "submit" I thought, "I bet I'm wrong about that..."

Thanks!

I am disappointed that the Eigenharp is not a standalone instrument - it needs to be hooked to a Mac to play, and the sound output is via the Mac. Not really sure (other than the breath controller) what it gains over a set of sequencing MIDI keyboards or indeed a computer running Ableton Live (which has a PC version) with any sort of controller you fancy.

I suppose it's smaller than the keyboards - but bigger than a PC + controller pad(s) - and you can get up there like a guitarist and move about rather than being stuck behind a keyboard (of whatever sort).

so did I. They are also about £3k! Which, to be fair, is the price of a decent guitar (e.g. Gibson Les Paul) - but the geetar doesn't also need a 2k Mac to play.... (+ DAC box for decent sound + possibly a mixerboard). Of course both need amps and speakers....
