Why LJ sucks, #626

I just told AdBlock to block scorecardresearch.com, outboundlink.net, scnt.rambler.ru, top3list.ru and tns-counter.ru.

Suddenly, LJ loads in half the time.

that was what I found too. What page on LJ were they being loaded from?

I'm getting scorecardresearch.com on this page.

None of the others though. I'll look about and see what pages they do show up on.

Hmm. Tis possible that they're on a particular layout that a friend is using...

Were you logged in to a paid acct?

Outboundlink is the link redirector, so it'll show up on a page that has external links.

I fin the idea so obnoxious it's the second domain to be aded to this machine's hosts file, with me not using ablock. I'm guessing it might be a plan for me to add it now, blocking stuff that I hate manually is getting to annoying now.

Remember that link to a really cool brige design you put up a month or so back, I think it was the Hong Kong one that changes sides? I could not get there directly from LJ, had to go to your delicious and click there, it was that that finally prompted the hosts file use.

Outboundlink is the specific link redirector, needs an outgoing link to trigger on mouseover, the rest I don't know.

I turned that stuff off through the lj console, but can't remember the runes offhand.

That rings a bell. I'm fairly sure I did that the first time Teh Drama about it broke.

Yup, but it looks like something in their layout. Not a general LJ thing at all. Alert over!
