Did you also see the Gawker report yesterday that the iPad is so insecure that with a few clicks a group was able to use one to get the email and IP addresses of 114,000 people including the head of DARPA and the White House Chief of Staff?
It's Apple's fault because they made everyone who bought an iPad in the United States get service from AT&T.
If a client comes to me for a writing job and I assign it to Rome Girl and then I deliver it to the client, if the client complains I don't say "Oh, Rome Girl did this" I say "I'm sorry Calendar Communications did not get the job done right."
I don't want it to be mandatory, because sometimes the name of the site you're linking to is actually part of the tweet. See my on from 7-ish last night about www.theittybittykittycommittee - where the tweet was about how cute the url was!
The double-bind created by modern manners and eating habits. People are leaving pregnant women standing for fear of accidentally insulting an overweight lady.
I didn't really see a double-bind. Anyone who says "Would you like my seat, unless you're a fatty." is clearly a dick. You can just offer the seat to the other person without saying "Are you pregnant?" first, if they look lik they could do with a seat more than you do.
True, but from your link, it looks like Twitter will be auto-expanding them back for web view, and presumably that'll be possible in the API as well.
I don't yet have an opinion, I currently use Bit.ly because it's easy, it gives me stats, and it's supported by clients I sometimes use.
But I'm not keen on the site, I'm not keen on any TLD in an unstable country.
I guess it depends on how implemented and what we, as end users, get out of it. If there's a nice little bookmarklet or similar that makes it work well, and if it auto expands for web/client view, then it could be better than current.
I'll be much happier with auto-shortened URLs that tell me what they are than I am with the utterly opaque shortened URLs we have now, I have to say. And couldn't you still include that URL by just not including the http:// (and maybe also the www)?
I'm not sure that most fat women will take offence at being offered a seat, if it looks like they need it. I gave my seat to a (very) fat bloke a week or so back, and he seemed happy enough to get it.
You're never going to make _everyone_ happy. I think I feel a post coming on!

The iPad is an absolutely gorgeous piece of technology, but I'm still not sure I want one, purely because of their censorship policies.

Date: 2010-06-10 11:07 am (UTC)I can't justify buying one anyway, as I don't have that kind of spare cash, but even if I could, I wouldn't buy it with their current policies.

It could also be bloody awful.
