I've been steadfastly ignoring this fact for two reasons:
1) Last year was a massive birthday party, and it very-much felt like a "great big celebration which cannot be outdone", and therefore I didn't feel the need for any kind of big party to follow it up.
2) My wife has cancer, and that's taking up all of my spare brain.

Which means that I woke up this morning with absolutely no expectations of birthday, and was very happy to have Julie wish me happy birthday and give me a big hug, and then discover dozens of birthday wishes on Facebook.

I'm going to work as normal (and actually very happy to be doing so, as we're in the middle of testing, and if I wasn't in there fixing the bugs I'd be worrying about them), and then going for dinner with Julie, [livejournal.com profile] pennski and [livejournal.com profile] bookzombie - purely because they happen to be up for the festival and this was the only day we were both free. And then Julie has bought me tickets for Rich Hall this evening, which I am very-much looking forward to, as I've only ever seen him live doing his Otis Lee Crenshaw schtick.

(This is getting slightly in the way of getting over to my brother Hugh's to pick up a present from him - so that's probably being moved to Friday, as he's gallivanting around the country on Thursday. I am looking forward to the surprise.)

My parents have sent me a few parcels - but only one has arrived. It's a Hayne's Manual for a Raspberry Pi, which gives me a clue about the contents still to come. I'm looking forward to reading through that on the train down to [livejournal.com profile] flickgc and [livejournal.com profile] drplokta's party this weekend.

(And Julie just came in, read this over my shoulder, said "Oooh, ooh" in an excitable tone, and then sung me Happy Birthday. I have an awesome wife.)
