Last week I went to see Wreck-It Ralph. It was basically Toy Story, but with the arcade games of my youth rather than toys. The performances were strong, the animation was pretty, the story was well put together, the comedy was entertaining, the actors all solid*, and generally speaking I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was curious as to why the computer games they riffed off were generally from the 80s/90s, and how much today's 10 year old kids will recognise them. Would they even recognise Q*bert?

This week I went to see Warm Bodies, my second ever Rom-Zom-Com. It was good enough that I'm going to have to rewatch Shaun of The Dead to see which is my favourite example of the genre. for never was a story of more whoah, that this of Julie and her zombie Romeo**. It manages to mix some tender moments with unpleasant scares and knowing humour. Being the nervous wreck that I am, I find zombie-type movies terribly scary***, and I spent a good third of the movie curled up on my seat, but enjoyed the rest of it enough to make up for that. Oh, and some of the shots were absolutely gorgeous. The director clearly knew how to convey different moods very well, changing from claustrophobic to wide-open seamlessly, and setting the mood very nicely.

After that, Rebecca, Hugh, and Gordon, and I went to Indaba, which I hadn't been to before, and does a fantastic mix of Spanish, South American, and South African tapas. I had the horse****, Patatas al Horno con Aioli, and Arepa with Chorizo and Fried Egg. 90% of their menu is gluten free, and it was all absolutely delicious. Oh, and I had a scoop of "mince pie" ice cream. Which I absolutely could not resist, and tasted delicious. The nicest new restaurant I've been to in a while, and I heartily recommend it if you're in the Tollcross area of Edinburgh. Book in advance though, it's not that large, and was completely full on a Tuesday night (well-deservedly so).

Have two trailers:

*Not knowing Sarah Silverman, I kept hearing the voice of Tiny Tina whenever Vanellope Von Schweetz spoke.
**Seriously, I giggled when there was a balcony scene.
***Particularly fast zombies. And particularly, particularly The Infected of the 28...Later movies. Angry people running straight at me scare the bejesus out of me. And I don't have much bejesus in the first place.
****How could I not, after recent headlines?
