Insomnia

Despite it being a perfectly reasonable 20 degrees in the flat right now, I lay in bed for an hour and a half unable to sleep, and feeling hot and sweaty before giving up and getting up to surf the internets.

Not that anything terribly exciting has been going on on them for the last two hours (it took me less than five minutes to catch up), but it beats staring at the inside of my own eyeballs.

I'm not sure if I ate something unusual, have come down with a slight case of something, or what, but my body is just refusing to get comfortable. It's disconcerting.

My brain's not really working well enough to do anything productive, and I probably shouldn't start playing computer games at half one in the morning. And the two books I'm in the middle of are both next to the bed, in the dark, near a sleeping Julie, so I'm not going to go rooting around for them.

*sigh*

D'oh!

I've just realised what Google+ does that Facebook doesn't:

Facebook doesn't allow your status updates to be public.

[livejournal.com profile] steer was asking how the circles system in G+ was different to Facebook's friends list system. And the difference is that it's more like LJ's friends lists than Facebook's. Which is to say that, like Twitter, you can 'follow' anyone, even if they don't want to be followed. And like LJ you can post to a particular circle, a mixture of different circles, all of your circles (the equivalent of friends-only) or make a post public.

And that means that a G+ identity can be used as a public identity as well as for chatting to your friends. And this is something I've not seen on any other social network since LJ came along.

Now, if it only had threaded comments, I'd be happy!

If so, my friend Padmini would love to hear about your habits in a very short survey here (that page tells you what she's investigating - the survey itself is the link above "Hello World").

It's very quick (seriously, it took me less than two minutes to fill out), and it would be very much appreciated.
