Searching on google for "livejournal.com" brings me up 2nd on the list of name (cheers to [livejournal.com profile] demon_rabbit for that).

I'm rather surprised.

I have an account with ibackup. This basically, for $3 a month, gives me 50MB of storage with them. It's accessible via FTP, WebDAV, a very nice Web front end, a little driver that makes it look like part of my file system and also a backup system (presumably the original method).

It has useful functions, like the ability to share files with others. So what, you might think, stick it on your webspace. Except that this uses encryption to make sure nobody else can get it, can be set up to allow n downloads before disabling itself, and is as simple a method for quickly placing a file somewhere and giving someone else access to it.

Today, I needed some files from my mother, so that I can fix a program she uses that I wrote/write. The program keeps track of all intensive neonatal care in South East Thames (intensive neonatal care is another way of saying premature/sick babies - these babies weight down to 500g and it's all quite heartwrenching), and is part of an ongoing project run by my father in his position as a neonatologist.

Anyway, one of the reports was giving a "subscript error" computer-speak for "find me a programmer, I'm sick"), so I needed a copy of the system to sit in front of me. Having got Mum to zip it up, I thought "Right, how do I talk her through IBackup?" I mean, it's a piece of piss for me to use, and I'm sure she'd get the hang of it in 5 minutes flat, if I was there, but it's not so easy when I'm talking her through it on the phone and she doesn't get on well with technology.

And then I realised - we're both on MSN! So I got her to drag the ZIP file to the chat window, and it's currently 2/3 of the way through. Considering it's a 17MB file, that's pretty impressive.

And that is the only thing I can think of that's simpler than IBackup :->

With a title like that, I have to also link to here to fully show that I don't mean you.

Anyway, having fully covered ny ass in a way that won't save me for more than, say, 3 microseconds, here's the problem with women.

Oh, I should provably say - it's the problem with lots of men too.

Damn, too late.
