Moving about
Jun. 4th, 2002 08:08 pmToday was a nice slow day. I was in the office, moving servers, from 11am. Today's a Bank Holiday due to some strange anniversary to do with royalty, so there was nobody else about and we could finally clean out the server room.
The job went fairly easily - without anyone around to interrupt us we could take the time to do the job properly, label all the cables, check everything to make sure it worked properly, get rid of all the extraneous wiring and make sure it all came back up alright.
We finished early (4pm) and I dashed back into the train station to see if I could make my way to Edinburgh to meet Erin before she came home. I thought it would be a nice way to grab an extra hour with her, and a nice surprise too. I phoned and made sure she'd be on the 5:37 train, which she confirmed she would be. She seemed jealous of me getting out early, but I decided to keep my plan to meet her a complete surprise.
I arrived in Edinburgh at 5:17, to hear an announcement of a train to Stirling, which was odd, as they only go at 7 and 37 past the hour. I quickly phoned Erin as I dashed over the bridge between platforms, and she told me she'd just got on a train. As she did so I jumped onto the train and heard the doors hiss shut behind me. Apparently, jealous of me leaving work early, she'd decided to catch a train 30 minutes earlier than usual. Fortunately the train was delayed by 10 minutes, allowing me to meet her by the smallest of margins.
Needless to say, she was delighted to see me, I read over her shoulder and chatted on the way back (having finally finished The Alienist on the Glasgow - Edinburgh train), which was a really nice and relaxing way to spend the hour.
And them home, for Tacos and Babylon 5, about to be followed by Black and White (which Erin has become addicted to, and is demanding I stop typing so that we can carry on training her Tiger).
