Cold

I have a cold. Not a terrible one, but definitely an annoying one. Every time I sneeze (which is quite a lot at the moment, this particular cold is somehow different to most of the ones I get. A lot more sneezing and a lot less of completely blocked nose. But enough of my vile biology) my back teeth bang together and I've now got the same kind of feeling I used to get from grinding them in my sleep.

This has made my day at work even more fun. I went in for 1:00 today, as trains from Stirling->Glasgow are terrible on Sundays, and there wasn't likely to be anything for me to do before that. What I had to do, once I was in there was this:

  • Turn each machine on
  • Change the exchange server address to the new server for each profile (up to 10 per machine)
  • Change the drive mapping to the new server
  • Change the printer port to the new server
  • Uninstall the old antivirus software
  • Install Norton Antivirus

Understandably, this would involve a lot of waiting around for programs to install and uninstall, etc., so I ended up doing it in groups of 10 PCs, turning them all on, logging them all in, etc.

There is more mindnumbing work, but I haven't done much of it since I stopped doing directoriy enquiries for BT.

Now I'm home (which took nearly 2 hours) and going to cook myself and Erin some food. Her cold is somewhat worse than mine and in fact she just said "I have to lose weight. That way there'll be less of my body to ache."

I fancy soup. I'm not sure I can face anything else...

And tomorrow, everyone arrives in and tries to use their computer and myself and Graham will undoubtably be run off our feet tidying up little glitches and things we missed.

And then next weekend we do it again with the rest of the servers.

Joy.
