Erroneous pedantry FTL! A billion televisions can't be wrong, CP Scott to the contrary notwithstanding.

Chamberlain We belong to a sort of secret society, the Order of Chaeronea, like the Sacred Band of Thebes. Actually, it's more like a discussion group. We discuss what we should call ourselves. 'Homosexuals' has been suggested.

AEH Homosexuals?

Chamberlain We aren't anything till there's a word for it.

AEH Homosexuals? Who is responsible for this barbarity?

Chamberlain What's wrong with it?

AEH It's half Greek and half Latin!

Chamberlain That sounds about right.

The Invention of Love is probably his best play, but it is also the hardest one to understand, because you kind of have to be up on your Victorians, academic politics, classics education, and trial of Oscar Wilde to get all the jokes -- and thus, it does not receive the popular acclaim of, say, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

That little excerpt happens just before the last scene -- a conversation between old, sad Oscar Wilde and old, sad A.E. Houseman -- that never fails to bring me to tears. Ah, sappy gay academics, what will the world do with us?
