Date: 2010-01-01 02:59 pm (UTC)Been using CVS for years, and as it's a big public repository, a commit feels like a Big Deal. As in, Don't Fuck Up.
Even now I've got all my work stuff in an SVN repo on the work fileserver, and the only person who's ever going to look at the log file is me, it still feels like a significant thing.
I've now got to grips with git. For starters it makes working offline a great deal easier. But also, I find like the poster says, that it's changed my attitude to making commits to the repository. They're less like taking something to the bank to be set in stone and more like taking a snapshot.
It's made me more relaxed with CVS somehow too -- I used to keep my working copy in the state I'd patched it and leave that instance ready for an eventual commit or update; now I just reverse the patch and use that instance for something else.
