  • 4. Publicly released Hubble images are actually the results of Photoshop tutorials by Industrial Light and Magic interns.

> Quakers to allow gay marriages

Not yet. Not quite yet. Give it a few more hours, and it'll be certain.

Hurrah for the Quakers! Again! (They have a very long history of being in the vanguard of social reform, including treatment of the mentally ill, prison reform, gender equality, and recognition of same-sex relationships.)

IIRC, there was a novel called Toolmaker Koan with a premise something like that.

Oh yes, of course. With a track record like that of the Quakers, I was bound to miss at least something major off the list.

I was very pleasantly surprised (as a devout agnostic) a while back to learn that although the Quakers have their origins in Christianity, the movement has grown considerably beyond that, to the point where there are not only Friends from other religions, but also that being agnostic or atheist is not considered a bar to membership. I don't know, offhand, of any other Western religious tradition which doesn't have "believing in God" as a mandatory prerequisite.

Actually, the truth is MSG only kills white people. ;)

I think it's a constitutional requirement that somebody has to cite http://xkcd.com/250/ in response to that, so it might as well be me...

Quakers seem to be lovely. I really like all the Quakers I've ever met. They seem quite big on the whole 'oh, just sit and have a wee think and calm down' way of living. I approve of that. They're basically wanting to tell the Catholics to take a chill pill.
