Harvey Keitel to play Gene Hunt in US remake of Life On Mars.  Here

Good Thing?  Bad Thing?  I have _no_ idea.

Almost certainly a bad thing though:
"At home in Sam's apartment building in the East Village, there's Windy, a free-spirited, post-hippie chick who can teach Sam a thing or two about the cultural revolution taking place in front of his unbelieving eyes."

*raspberry* Why didn't they just buy the BBC series and air that? Oh sorry, being logical here.

Yes, the remake could be really cool and fun. I am hoping for the best.

Keitel could well pull it off. In fact, a US remake of LoM set in NYC could well work.

Er, I'm sure I saw a trailer for this with Colm Meaney in that role.

I suspect I would have difficulty not thinking of Bad Lieutenant.

Wow, it must have really sucked.

WTGP?!?!?!

Keitel for a (however mildly) sensitive role?

No effing way!

I have little or no appreciation for Keanu Reeves but I contend that he would be significantly better in fulfilling this casting.

Ah! I thought I'd heard that they'd already made an (presumably) atrocious remake; I wasn't sure if this meant they were making a re-remake. Has that ever worked?

From the commercials, it looks like Keitel is playing the insensitive police officer, not the main character.

Weirdly, that 'Windy' shit aside, the trailers look remarkably faithful to the original.

Yeah, and other notes I've seen around it look like they are planning on diverging considerably, down the line. Faithful but not slavish is about the only way this could avoid being a travesty or a complete waste of time... I'm feeling waaay better about this whole project than I was when I first saw stuff about their dreadful pilot, I have to say.

Ugh, the "windy" thing really does sound stupid. :/

I have to say though, I'm only just now getting around to watching Life on Mars (the BBC version) and it's pretty freaking awesome. :)
