Saw it twice at the cinema, and at least that many times on DVD. It's a glorious mishmash of silly speeches and incredible battle scenes. I love it to bits. The only way it could be improved would be if William Wallace and Edward Longshanks battled it out on top of The Wallace Monument. With lightsabers.
But but but it's *awful*! And inspired a lot of stupid people to hate the English (and incidentally anyone who sounds English but has lived in Scotland for the vast majority of their life and probably has more Scottish ancestry than the idiots who tell her to go back home because she's a tourist) even more. It incites nationalism of the worst sort!
Nationalism like the Scot Nats do it is so often just a form of racism that for some reason is acceptable. I don't like bigotry and I hate the fact that a film which twists the reality of things to make the hated group seem more villanous and repulsive is so widely accepted. Yeah, the English were unpleasant to the Scots. It was the Middle Ages! People generally weren't lovely and peaceful then!

Lightsabres would make it all okay.
