Following on from the earlier post about violence and games, I thought I'd give my reasoning for why murder is worse than rape. If people would like to chime in with their reasons either pro or anti mine, I'd be interested to see them.

You don't get better after murder. You never get to do anything, ever again. You are over. The end.

Whereas I know several women that have been raped (a horrifying proportion, in fact) and I've seen all of them be happy on many many occasions.

I wouldn't take that away from them by wishing they'd been murdered instead.

I'm absolutely with you on that one. It seems to me that the "better dead than raped" argument is very, very strongly linked to the "a defiled woman has no value, and might as well not exist" argument.

Also, I know it sounds tasteless, but if you're raped and you want to die, you can.

the worst part of a rape is not knowing whether or not they are going to kill you. so i would agree..murder is worse. although being raped does kill a part of you that is impossible to ever get back. sometimes that makes you think it would have been better if you'd died.

I agree absolutely with this one. Classifying rape as one of the worst things that can happen to you just increases its capacity to inflict emotional damage.

It's a form of assault intended to induce fear and cause feelings of worthlessness. It's nasty and awful. But it is survivable, and death isn't.
