Cheers to [livejournal.com profile] baconmonkey and [livejournal.com profile] tisme for United 300, or Spartans on a Plane. Worth it for the opening 45 seconds and the conversation with Xerxes. Also the final post-credits scene.

Also to [livejournal.com profile] drainboy for this quote:
"One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it."
which is from this list of theist quotes. As drainboy said "I really hope that this is a real quote and also that it’s not."

Sorry, drainboy's quote has just put me on TILT. (And that is one of those references, like stuck references, that Show My Age).

I am flipping between 'that's just somebody's idea of a joke' to 'no, there really are people capable of writing that without giving a moment's thought to what form that huge outside source of energy might take' to 'it's a lovely sunny evening, I should go for a walk'.

That quote's begging for the Daily Show to mock it. Shot outside, in full daylight, while squinting.

The theist in question must also be a hacker. He's never experienced the DayStar...

Evolution is a great way to describe what's going on without ever actually explaining why.

"There's laws see, and we have to follow them see and we'll know everything one day I tells ya!"

I think you're succeeding rather well.

There are no laws, but it appears that everything behaves as if there are. Einstein and Darwin were both utterly wrong, but that doesn't mean that the theists are correct.

Of course they were wrong. Just because a perceiver chooses to plant their flag and claim "good enough" doesn't make it an explanation. Evermore accurate and detailed observation and note keeping will only better tell us about ourselves than have anything to do with explaining the universe. No matter how credible and predictable, any scientific model will fall into the category of being good enough whilst also being utterly wrong. And that's okay. If your game is having better televisions, medicine and ways to observe the universe etc than Einstein and Darwin have contribued some valuable insights. It's just a game though.
