Was Absolute Sandman volume 1. Because I'm a sucker for deluxe editions of _anything_ (I have Absolute League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and Absolute Watchmen already). And because they've recoloured the first 18 issues - with the results you can see by comparing this with this. Oh, and it's 50% bigger, in hardback, fantastically bound, and heavy enough I could beat my neighbours to death with it next time they piss me off.

The recolouring sounds lovely. The rest, I'm not too bothered about.

*steps back in amazement* Andy rushes out and buys the latest format of a thing? Who'd have thunk it?

Looks real purty.

And passes the Robert Jordan test - hefty enough to take someone out if thrown at them. Not that you would.

Heh. It's part of a new set.

I never really rated the artwork in a lot of Sandman. There are way prettier comics - than a lot of it, anyway, things like The Wake excepted of course. I read it for the stories.

Did you ever read JLA/Avengers? The hardback collection is basically Absolute format by any other name. Fantastic stuff (and I'm not sure it's even collected any other way...)

It's one of the few things that doesn't get loaned out so no problem. Alternatively I have the first issue which you can borrow - it's lined up to actually go permanently to someone else, but if sir reads quick...

Ah, yes, I remember parts of that being gorgeous too. But there were huge chunks also that were really only passible - especially on the colouring front.

heh. know what you mean. I remember I could never like a comic if the art was crap, not even if the story was good.

And I liked arty art rather than comic book art.

So for instance the Bill Sienkevic(sp??) "Elektra Assassin" but not the rest.
