Tags on there for you, by you..

but allowing everyone to tag everything??

you and I will use a very different taxonamy for stuff, so , taging would be better , personalised.

tagging has so much potencial, yet, can get so complex , so quickly

doh, i looked into whether tags could be publically edited a while back but i must have missed something. although i first fell in love with lj because of it's intuitive combination of blogging and social networking, the lack of keep-up with newer technologies and concepts or the implementation of these is annoying. first i have to click on the entry, then i have to click on the tag icon, then i have to scroll through a list of existing ones (unlike the easy see-everything or js suggest way del.icio.us does it), and looking at your own journal style now, it has all your tags in the sidebar, but it completly misses the nifty part, i.e., the tag cloud style of making the tags bigger and/or bolder proportional to their usage. web 2.0 livejournal ain't, yet anyway.

i'd like to say more and reply to your previous post (which i missed before) but i've a draft post on tagging systems (both in their implemntation and the way people use them) that i really need to finish off so i'll do it in that at some point soon.

ah yeah, i probably should upgrade to s2. my gripe with the lj tagging page is more about usability than anything else. you can type in tags, and that's what i'd prefer to do, but you can't to it google suggest like using javascript (i'm dyslexic and greatly appreciate being able to do that on del.icio.us) and you seem to quickly run out of space and can't see all the tags the post has already. also, you can't distinguish between you own and other users tags, another great annoyance.

lj's featureset, legacy systems and lack of intuitiveness have been getting to me for a while now, but unfortunatly it seems to be the best of a bad bunch. i shall reserve ranting for now though until i have the time to sit down properly and get it all out in a coherent manner :)
