It's true, stick eyes on anything and they look like faces.

Odd and fascinating. 3, 6, 7, 11, & 19 didn't strike me as faces, but the rest very much did. It would likely be interesting to find any correlations between which ones were most face-like and other individual and cultural variation. I'm especially wondering if the presence of so many artificial faces on cartoons and toys impacts how easy it is for us to see faces. I'm guessing that both brain hardwiring and cultural influences are at work here.

Thinking about this makes me seriously wish that cognitive psychology and similar disciplines used cross-cultural samples instead of simply relying on data on groups of First World undergrads.
