It ain't no good if you're in the jungle.
Jul. 11th, 2025 07:40 amRight now (7:30am) it is 14 degrees outside.
It is 24 degrees in our bedroom, despite the windows being open all night. Humidity is 92%.
This afternoon it will rise to 26 degrees. I'm glad the office has air conditioning. I'm not looking forward to tonight.

Date: 2025-07-11 08:14 am (UTC)Also, British homes tend to be built around keeping heat in, and Scottish ones apparently particularly so. So the house kept to a reasonable temperature in the winter fairly easily/cheaply, but in the summer it gets quite toasty.
Also, hi! I was just thinking a couple of days ago that it was ages since I'd heard from you!

Date: 2025-07-11 08:31 am (UTC)Some are designed to fit in windows to help pull air in & out. But the non-window oscillating ones which provide a breeze inside the house can make it feel cooler too.

But the solution is pretty simple. The humidity was 92% outside. And so would be less inside, where it's warmer. (I'm getting the humidity from my weather app, not a humidity sensor, which I don't own.)

Date: 2025-07-13 05:03 pm (UTC)I'm finding this tough. Opening the windows wide last thing is helping, and then I can keep the fans on and they've actually got some cold air to swirl around. Getting up early, incarcerating the kits and then throwing open the door and windows is also good. But it's a tough gig. I think there are ways of doing this that I don't know.

Date: 2025-07-14 08:21 am (UTC)Thankfully last night it was down to 21 degrees in the bedroom, and so we could close the windows and not be woken at 4am by fighting gulls.
I'm not convinced there is much that can be done about this, other than full-on air-conditioning systems, as many warmer countries make use of. If things keep going this way then I suspect that these will start to become popular in at least the South of the UK.
