A plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a fox.

When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, the American response was to (covertly) sponsor and train local militias/freedom fighters.  Arguably it went well, since the Soviet Union left, and collapsed. Arguably it went badly, since it's some of those same people they're now fighting themselves.

Luckily they've got a plan... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/petraeuss-first-act-is-to-establish-militias-to-fight-the-taliban-2027711.html

It's like that Future Shock where the scientist keeps creating more and more super supermen :-)

I don't know why she swallowed a fly!

And unfortunately not like the Future Shock where time-travellers keep appearing to a scientist about to invent time travel, until he eventually says 'fuck this'.

On a semi-related note, I can recommend this: Timecrimes

Saw it on Film4 a couple of months back and, for what initially seemed to be a fairly unremarkable Spanish-language attempt at sci-fi, it's remarkably well put together. Acting's not fantastic, but the plot's a nice take on the time-travel theme. Worth an hour or two of your time and is, at least as far as I can recall, the nearest a time-travel story's come to being paradox-free.

I saw that last month, actually. :) I am the BIGGEST fan of time travel movies. And yeah, nicely tidy, and pretty domestic.

But have you seen Primer? That's consistent as fuck.

Not seen Primer but I'll go take a look now. Ta for the tip.

It's eye-poppingly good.

BTW, full of spoilers! :D

I also saw a nice mockup of the DVD cover with the name changed to 'Fuck What?'

Just spoilers for anyone else. It's a damn clever film. I watched it with someone who didn't know it had anything to do with time travel.
