We've spent the last two weeks toilet training Gideon. And then on Wednesday nursery said "Right, he's not had any accidents in days, time for him to switch to pants".
Which was great for nursery, but he was continuing to have regular accidents at home, and not show any interest or capacity to recognise himself when he needed the toilet. So far as I can tell nursery were asking him every thirty minutes (along with all of the other kids who are in his room), which worked. But leaving him to realise himself meant he basically didn't. Which led to the evening where I had to run the washing machine three times for accidents, and I was despairing a bit.
But today he, for the first time at home he said he needed the toilet *before* he did a wee, and we got there just fine. So I have some hope again!
He still isn't managing with poo, but hopefully that will fall into place over the next couple of weeks. We have until late August before he moves up to the next room, which doesn't do nappies, but that seems totally doable.
This evening the kids were playing in the street. There's still an issue that most of the kids playing out there are older than Sophia - I think that the ones the same age and younger aren't playing out there yet - so she gets quite sidelined. But I encouraged her to say "Hey, I want to play too" and they found her a role, which is nice. And Gideon is happy just to muck about near other kids.
Tomorrow we have a childminder for half the day, and that will be good. Jane and I get to go out and have breakfast and a walk with no children. I've been looking forward to that for *weeks*.
